So sorry for your loss, Mindy. Joel and the rest of your family have meant a lot to so many of us who want so desperately to hold together truth, beauty, and justice in a fallen world and a church that keeps trying to tell us we can only have one of the three at a time...
We met Joel in Carbondale, Illinois when he came to do a conference at his good friend Wyatt George’s church where we were attending. That was in ~2002 and we have been subscribing ever since. So sorry for your loss. 🙏🏻
I just saw this in my email. What a man and what a loss! His lens helped shape a view of the world that still speaks with power, grace and forthrightness. Thank you for letting us all know. Never met him but he will be missed. From a long time reader of his magazine. Peace.
A beautiful tribute to your brother in law. So glad he gave you the opportunity all those years ago as you began your writing career. Joel was a wise man in many many ways! 😊
A hearty threefold amen to Joel's trinity of advice conveyed to you from his desk. I'll carry it with me, along with wonderful memories of his influence and commentaries. I'm sorry I never quite met Joel Belz in person. Still, he feels like the wisest uncle I've ever known and a grand, generous friend in the faith. May Christ console you in your loss, and restore you in the assurance of Joel's destiny.
So sorry to hear about Joel, and so soon after you lost your husband. My heart is with you. The good thing is they are both with Jesus, and no more worries. God bless you and your work. Keep after it.
I can't fathom the glory and majesty we'll encounter in heaven. But I can almost picture your dear husband welcoming his brother at heaven's threshold with a mighty, joyful embrace. May God hold you close as you grieve, and may their departures help us fix our hope on everlasting life.
"As for man, his days are like grass;...But the lovingkindness of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children," - Psalm 103:15, 17

Thank you for sharing this tribute. My family has read World since its inception. I appreciate Joel's work and optimism that kept it going.
I’m so sorry Mindy, will continue to pray for your extended family.
Condolences on another painful loss, Mindy. I do think you've consistently hit that threefold target in your writing. Keep up the good work.
That’s kind, Russell, and thank you.
WORLD was a wonderful new publication.
He was full of imagination and energy to start it.
Mindy, Have you started writing your substack again?
Thanks,
