Thank you for your reporting and also for your advice about the emotional dimension of our responses to the human-caused humanitarian disasters of our time.

It’s heartbreaking and grievous to learn how much harm the Trump people have done to the poorest and most vulnerable. This week I read Psalm 37 in response to reading updates about how the war is impacting some of the poorest agrarian countries; it gave a timely big-picture view that was much needed. Kyrie Eleison.

Thank you for your exhortation: “I advocate for disciplined and not obsessive news reading.” Actually I’ve been trying to adopt this kind of strategy for soul care; I’ve cancelled some online subscriptions, focusing now on only a couple sites, always looking forward to yours.

Kefa Sempangi, a Ugandan, wrote a book in the early 80's(?) called 'A Distant Grief. The premise being that we have no idea how great God's love is, in our finite human minds, we really dont understand the depth of evil, either. It seems we read more bad news every day, not just in quantity, but more ways to do others wrong. Your book sounds like a lovely sequel to the one Im reading. 'The Wastelands' by Corban Addison. Its a NC farm country story about the massive hog farms and what that did to their neighbors, who were also farmers, or retired farmers. It reads like a playback for the Trump administration. They go into these ventures without a thought for the 'manure' that is going to come out of it. It took over 20 years to get any kind of satisfaction because Smithfield, mainly, lined every public office from sheriff on up with "their people'. It is hard to believe that no one can acknowledge it is never okay to live in such a way that you cause other people's lives to be filled with an unbreathable stench. A couple of farmers figure it out and even though they are practically enslave to the industry, they get out at great personal costs. The sad thing is, it doesn't have to be so win or lose all. There is a system that will provide that the Chinese have always used (because the like pork so much) but these industrialized farmers won't install it because :it costs too much." Sorry to go on so. It just spilled. Im supposed to be getting eggs.
